This bedroom in an elegant, mid 19th Century London Town House had radiators in the alcoves and my client wanted to install wardrobes but retain the original cornice without having the expense of copying and re-running the original cornice. They required a wall mounted plasma screen TV on the chimney breast with the operating equipment in the right hand wardrobe. They also wanted high level pull down hanging in both wardrobes, six low fronted shirt drawers in the left hand side and adjustable shelves in the right hand side with accommodation provided for their full length bedroom curtains.

In these images you can see the original alcoves, the installed wall hanging panel for the plasma screen TV and my wardbobes installed before they were painted above. 
My design for the finished and painted wardrobes with the high level pull down hanging rails (in both sides), drawers in the left cupboard and the TV equipment in the right hand cupboard was successful.  The full sized image shows the infra red eye at high level to operate the TV equipment, the low cornice over the top of the wardrobes so that there is retention of the existing decorative cornice and the accommodation made for the full curtains.

In these images you can see the original wardrobes above which, although were of good quality, were too shallow to hang suite properly and too low to have double hanging.  In addition the doors did not even try to balance. The central image below is during the installtion of my newly designed mdf wardrobes.

These images show my designs after installation and painting.  The interiors of the cupboards were plain mdf stained. The wood grain effect was simply very clever use of brushmarks.  I designed the drawers to take shirts and the depth and height of the wardrobes gave suffcient room to hang double suits if required and have them at right angle to the wardrobe doors.  My design style is traditional, plain with recessed central door panels, a proper skirting to the base and the builders cornice to finish it off over the top.
