This traditionally appointed bedroom, with mahogany wardrobe and dressing chest, was not sufficiently utilized for a teenage daughter due to study and working for her place at University. Simon Spencer was asked to re-plan and design it to improve the wardrobe space, provide a work area and have some bookshelves. I felt it important to retain the period and atmosphere of the 30’s building. One can see how I replicated the style of some of the mouldings, from the very large image of the door, it’s panel, architrave and the cornice on the page of Details. Once I had planned the design and the existing furniture was re-house the manufacturers moved in and fitted out the room as shown below.

	I was asked to design and replace the two rather plain and skimpy alcove units with our more classically styled bookcases which were more in keeping with the house.

	I was asked to design two sets of alcove bookcases the one with all books and the other with the cupboards adapted to house the new plasma TV and Hi-Fi in the other on the left hand side. The radiators were removed and I designed matching covers for them on the walls opposite.

	I was asked to design a returned run of bookcases to add to the atmosphere of the lower ground floor of this newly built house.

	My design for my client had a dramatic result which radically changed the room for them which gave them something to build upon and create their own home atmosphere.
